Fishermen's Park development to be concluded within next 3 months

Male’ City Council (MCC) has expressed developing the fishermen’s market will be concluded within the upcoming three months. MCC has removed all vehicles in the area and closed off the area by fencing, to renovate and redevelop the fishermen’s park.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Mayor of MCC Shamau Shareef stated the council decided to develop the area not to construct huge buildings there, but rather improve the services available in the park. Shamau Shareef stated since huge infrastructure developments would not be seen, the development can be completed with small amounts or equipment provided from different companies under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He noted currently the process of seeking equipment needed for the development are underway adding works will begin before Ramadan. Furthermore, he expressed hope the services from the park will be available within three months.

While several facilities are would be arranged in the park for tourist, the plan of the developed park does not include keeping food carts in the area. MCC revealed the carts will be shifted to another area. The fishermen’s park is being developed with public toilets, terminal to provide services for cruise liners. The area will also comprise of information desks and parking zones.

The project is being conducted by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
