18 companies proposed to take pilgrims from Maldives to Hajj pilgrimage

18 companies have proposed to take pilgrims from Maldives to this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

Ministry of Islamic Affairs revealed so far the companies which will be granted permission to carry pilgrims have not been decided. Islamic ministry said while works are underway to give permission to companies which meet the requirements, the announcement will be made soon after evaluating the proposals. Islamic ministry opened the opportunity to submit proposals on April 16.

Only companies which are 100% owned by Maldivians will be allowed and must hold the license to take pilgrims to Umrah, according to the regulation to take people to Hajj pilgrimage. The permit will be provided for a period of one year and only one proposal can be submitted per company. The regulation states if a company submits more than one proposal, all proposals from the said company will be disqualified.

Every year, Maldives receive a quota for 1,000 pilgrims. Some years’ additional quotas are also provided. Islamic Ministry expressed hope for more quotas this year as well.
