Ministry of Finance has begun depositing money from atoll shops operated in Male' City to local councils, after 4 years.
USD 814,391 were deposited to 12 local councils last week, according to finance ministry. The ministry said the depositing funds for four remaining councils are underway.
Commenting on the matter, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer said the source of income for councils are few, adding atoll shops are one of the few sources. The minister said the aim is to provide councils with all the funds warranted to the councils from previous years as soon as possible, highlighting the state will begin to deposit rent money to councils for the past 4 years beginning from 2015.
