Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has departed to Norway to attend the Conference on Ending Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Humanitarian Crisis. The conference is scheduled to be held from May 23-24 in Oslo, Norway.
In an interview with PSM News prior to her departure, Minister Shidhatha said she hopes to find ways to facilitate means through which efforts in Maldives to prevent sexual and gender-based violence can be improved.
The aim of the conference is to mobilize stronger political commitment to prevent sexual and gender-based violence in humanitarian crises, mobilise financial resources and highlight best practices and lessons learned from sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response in humanitarian situations.
The first day of the conference would focus on the work of civil society organisations. The outcome of the discussions will feed into the high-level day of the conference on May 24.
