National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed 90 water pumps have been provided to 40 islands in the past few years.
Addressing a press conference, Deputy Chief Executive Umar Fikree highlighted the efforts of the NDMA in minimising the damages and losses faced in the torrential rain and bad weather faced across the country throughout the year. Although a numerous amount of water pumps have been sent to the outlying islands over the years, he noted poor maintenance have caused delay in utilising the equipment.
A survey will be launched this year to identify the best places to keep the equipment safely and ways to move the equipment from one island to another in cases of emergency, according to NDMA.
