Foreign Minister calls for cooperation in bringing parallel development

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has called for cooperation in efforts to bring parallel developments to all parts of the country.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019, the foreign minister said several efforts are underway to bring development to all across the country as part of the island nation concept of the administration. In this regard, the minister highlighted the amendment of Decentralisation Act to empower local councils and strengthening the private sector.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid expressed plans of the administration to implement blue economy and good governance. Meanwhile, addressing the ceremony, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer acknowledged the strides achieved by Maldives in the past in terms of development. However, the minister added the benefits were not reached to all Maldivians. Speaking in this regard, he expressed as part of the forum the master plan for national development will be shared with the delegates.

The Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 is attended by over 130 delegates from 35 countries. The sessions of the forum were selected to reflect the key priority areas of the administration that will shine a light on how such outcomes can be achieved. The sessions include macroeconomic and fiscal performance; investing in a blue economy; ensuring social outcomes; enhancing good governance, justice and the rule of law; and partnering for development.
