Maldives need to up efforts to better the state of the country: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated there are lots of efforts Maldives need to make in the international area, to better the state of the country. The president made the statement, while delivering opening remarks at the Heads of Mission (HOM) Meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Addressing the meeting, President Solih said in order to deliver the benefits of developmental projects to the citizens, the country needs to maintain dialogue with the international community and find partners to assist its development.

Noting the objective of such meetings lie in finding means for the country to reach greener pastures, the president said regardless of the relatively small size of the country, Maldives take any challenge in its stride. He added both nationally and internationally, Maldives advocate upholding the rule of law and justice.

President Solih also reiterated his administration's overarching foreign policy vision, which will accord paramount importance to preserving and protecting the sovereignty, security and identity of Maldives. He noted Maldives should always be a forward-looking country that is cognizant of global trends and actively participates in the shaping of international discourse, especially where it pertains to the citizens.

Further, President Solih said in making overtures to other countries for friendship and cooperation, Maldives should strive to maintain its position as a respected member of the world community, an endeavour in which HOMs can crucially contribute. He thanked all the HOMs present for their ongoing work to strengthen the Maldives ties with all nations and providing services and consular assistance to Maldivians living abroad.

The president further expressed he would do all he can to assist the ambassadors in their work of providing such services and would also help them to resolve any challenges they confront and any concerns they raise.
