Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has revealed plans to develop 800 housing units in Fuvahmulah City.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister Mohamed Khalis said the administration have planned to construct 5-thousand housing units in the south of Maldives, adding 800 housing units are allocated for Fuvahmulah City.
The previous administration constructed 200 housing units in Fuvahmulah city. Despite the completion of the housing units two years back, the housing units were not developed to meet living standards. The flats are not in use, as the housing units lack basic necessities, including water, sewerage and electricity, according to Deputy Minister Khalis.
Noting the administration has begun efforts to establish required facilities in the housing units, Khalis said Fenaka Corporation Limited has been tasked to develop water, sewerage and electricity in the housing units. He noted efforts are underway to complete the housing units by the end of July.
Although the previous administration published a list of tenants for the flats, citing corruption in awarding the flats, the current administration has eliminated the process and begun reviewing the lists. In this regard, Fuvahmulah City Council is reviewing the tenant list for the 200 housing units.
Furthermore, Khalis expressed the tenants can begin living in the housing units by the end of August.
