Minister of Housing and Urban Development Aminath Athifa has revealed discussions are underway with Coral Boulevard regarding the luxury apartments planned to be built in Rasfannu in Male' City.
The housing minister made the remarks amid comments that the company contracted with the Coral Boulevard project, by the previous administration, had closed down their offices and left the country. The housing minister said the project is ongoing and has not been abandoned, adding the contractors are in discussions with the administration.
Upon changing the project to Hulhumale', some tenants who have paid for the apartments are seeking compensation. However, many have voiced concerns that the company is unreachable. Commenting on the matter, Athifa noted the housing ministry is looking in to the concerns, adding efforts are underway to solve the issue.
The luxury apartment condominium, which were initially planned to be built in the capital city, was contracted to Chang Hua Construction. The Singapore-based company is also contracted to develop the 25-storey Dharumavantha Hospital.
Coral Boulevard opened booking for 80 apartments under construction in Rasfannu artificial beach in Male' city. However, according to the housing minister, only 9 individuals had made advance payments for the apartments.
The developer revealed a booking fee of about USD 10,000 must be paid per residential unit. However, the new administration, which assumed office last November, declared extra no housing units would be built in the already congested capital city and moved the project to Hulhumale'.
