Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has signed an agreement with Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) and Horizons Fisheries Private Limited to provide diesel in lower rates to Maldivian fishermen.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed said the agreement was signed as part of the efforts by the administration to ease the difficulties faced by fishermen. She revealed fishermen now can purchase duty-free fuel from MIFCO and Horizons Fisheries, which would in turn slash the cost for fuel.
Duty-free fuel will be provided to all fishing vessels registered at the ministry, as part of the programme. The ministry aims to involve more fuel suppliers in the programme, initiated in accordance with the electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to provide duty-free fuel to Maldivian fishermen.
