Changes to be made to the salary and allowance structure of civil servants

Minister of Finance Ahmed Ameer has revealed changes would be made to the salary and allowance structure of civil servants next year.

Speaking to PSM News, Finance Minister Ameer said National Pay Commission is continuing efforts to bring significant changes to the salary and allowance structure of civil servants, in compliance with the electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to increase the take-home pay of civil servants. He said National Pay Commission is aiming to minimise the differences in the salary structure of civil servants, expressing hope the electoral pledge will be achieved next year.

The latest changes to the salary structure of civil servants were implemented in February 2018. The latest changes include the addition of a USD 45 allowance, raising to USD 97, to all civil servants and the introduction of a technical core allowance, subject to all civil servants in technical positions. Furthermore, all support staff are subject to supporting staff allowance, which amounts to USD 77.

Statistics show that there are 26,516 civil servants in Maldives, which includes 13,705 female and 10,811 male civil servants.

In addition to pledging to increase the take-home pay of civil servants, the administration has also pledged to introduce a minimum wage in Maldives for the first time.
