Higher Education Ministry to discuss student loans with businesses

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has revealed efforts are underway to include business entities in the loan system of the administration to broaden the loan schemes.

The higher education minister made the remarks at a ceremony held at Bandos Maldives to introduce degree and master's degree programmes of Malaysia's SEGi University at Clique College. The programmes from SEGi University were officially launched by the higher education minister.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister Ibrahim Hassan stated the administration is working tirelessly to provide higher education opportunities for students. In this regard, he noted the initiation of low interest loans and free-degree programme are noteworthy achievements of the administration which assumed office last November.

Noting the aim of the administration is to provide responsive and quality education, Minister Hassan expressed there are challenges in seeking loans to fund the studies of the students. He revealed in efforts to solve the issue, efforts have begun to include business entities in the project while discussions will commence soon.

Furthermore, in his speech, the minister highlighted several efforts have been initiated to ensure the courses provided in Maldives are internationally accredited and approved. He noted the higher education ministry has aimed to improve Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) to achieve the target.
