NIE to compile a National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy

National Institute of Education (NIE) has revealed plans to compile a National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, acting Head of NIE Curriculum Department Ahmed Rafeeu said talent of understanding, thinking and initiating are low in early learning stages, when compared to international standards. He said efforts are underway to develop mathematical and language studies to improve it. He further added an emergent literacy and mathematics project will commence in Maldives with assistance from an international organisation named Save the Children.

Speaking more on the project, Rafeeu revealed the project will be launched in some schools within the upcoming week, adding under the project several efforts will be exerted to improve the language and mathematics of pre-school and grades 1, 2, and 3. Moreover, he noted the works are underway to compile National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy, highlighting a draft have been completed by the institution.
