Ministry of Home Affairs has provided financial assistance to conduct projects in three islands. Home ministry signed agreements with Kinolhas Island Council, Vaikaradhoo Island Council and An’golhitheemu Island Council.
Under the grants, the councils should conduct the projects mentioned in the agreements. In this regard, a park must be developed in Kinolhas, walls must be constructed around the cemetery in Vaikaradhoo and road lights must be installed in An’golhitheemu.
The home ministry allocated over USD 19,235 to develop the park in Kinolhas, about USD 19,394 to construct walls around the cemetery in Vaikaradhoo and USD 19,041 to install road lights in An’golhitheemu.
As part of efforts to solve societal issues faced, the home ministry will provide finances to 17 islands. In this regard, financial assistance will be provided to build parks in 6 islands, install road lights in 6 islands, construct walls around cemeteries in 4 islands and install harbour lights in 1 island.
The islands are selected by evaluating the proposals submitted by the local councils, according to the home ministry.
