Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has handed over the convention centre developed in Ukulhas to the island council. The handover agreement was signed by Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam and President of Ukulhas Island Council Shaukath Ibrahim.
After signing the agreement, Shaukath said convention centre can house 400 people at a time, adding the International Artificial Intelligence Conference will be held in the island next Monday. Noting the island is a popular tourist destination, the council president said international seminars and events will be held in the island with the opening of the convention centre.
The convention centre includes a multipurpose hall, 2 classrooms, a VIP lounge and a business meeting room. The centre in Ukulhas is the second such facility developed outside the capital. The island operates 25 guesthouses with a total capacity of 600 beds.
