Government of Maldives has allocated 45 percent of the supplementary budget for education and healthcare.
Most of the finances included in the supplementary budget were for education. In this regard, USD 19.365 million was included to provide scholarships as part of the efforts of the administration to provide higher education opportunities to youth and USD 5.228 million to finance the school breakfast programme.
Ministry of Finance said more finances to provide higher education opportunities was included in the supplementary budget, as there were applicants who failed to receive funds from the government.
Furthermore, USD 18.977 million were allocated to develop tertiary-level hospitals in 5 areas of the country and USD 9.682 million to continue the projects on hold at Hulhumale' Hospital. The finance ministry said USD 51.639 million was included in the state budget to develop 5 tertiary-level hospitals across the country, adding the extra funds would ensure the projects are concluded successfully.
The administration has submitted a USD 110 million supplementary budget for parliament approval, which includes USD 6.067 million provided by the Government of India as grant aid.
