Prison Officers encouraged to play a key role in shaping inmates

Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz has said the biggest effort in shaping inmates before bringing them back to the society as responsible individuals must be exerted by prison officers.

Addressing at the closing ceremony of the 22nd training programme of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS), Prisons Commissioner Munaz stated the aim and target of prison officers must be serving and performing the tasks truthfully and responsibly. The prisons commissioner appealed every officer to abide by the Maldives Prison and Parole Act reminding that every officer is mandated to follow the laws and regulations.

Furthermore, Munaz urged to make use of the trainings when the prison officers are performing their duties. Noting one main aim of the government is to shape inmates as responsible citizens by the end of their sentences, he said a major role in achieving the goal is played by prison officers.

The oath for the officers who completed the training programme was administrated by Chief Judge of Civil Court Abdulla Ali.
