President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of Dhidhdhoo Island Council in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, President Solih enquired about the needs and concerns of the people, ongoing developmental plans and future development plans of the island. The councillors relayed details of several concerns and pressing issues such as concerns regarding issues of the harbour, beach erosion, upgrading the health services and requests from the youth regarding recreational facilities.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih shared updates of projects marked within the scope of the state budget and mentioned that the harbour project is planned to commence later this year and will be completed the following year. Concerning individual unresolved issues, he expressed these would be taken up with relevant ministries to ensure that they are given due attention.
Moreover, the president also stated that the proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act will exponentially increase the roles and responsibilities of the councillors and help address a majority of the concerns raised.
