Male' City Council has begun to develop a new parking zone in the capital city.
Male' City Council has been working to develop parking zones in an effort to solve the issue of lack of parking spaces in the most populous city in Maldives.
The council has been trying to avail possible unused slots as parking zones. In this regard, available spaces have all been recently developed and opened to public for parking. The mechanical parking systems installed by the previous administration have also been uninstalled and the place has been opened as a public parking zone.
Speaking at a recent news conference by Male' City Council, Mayor Sifa Mohamed revealed efforts are underway with Ministry of Transport, Maldives Polices Services and the President's Office to limit vehicles in the capital city, raising concerns of vehicle congestion.
Male' City Council intends to keep a large area of Male' City as pedestrian areas only as the formulation of Male' Redevelopment Plan is underway. The focus of the council is on keeping most narrow streets of Male' vehicle free. The council also plans to allocate an appropriate land area for public parks and parking zones.
