President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated United Nations is vital to effectively carry out the domestic and international agenda of the current Maldivian administration. The president made the statement during a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the side-lines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Speaking during the meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, President Solih indicated it was a great privilege to participate in the UNGA during the first year of his presidency. Moreover, the president extended his appreciation of the extensive work undertaken by the secretary-general in the United Nations, especially noting his unwavering commitment in building friendly ties between nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights, which are all key priorities of the Government of Maldives.
The president and secretary-general discussed ways of collaboration and avenues of cooperation between Maldives and the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Guterres reciprocated the president's sentiments, further expressing that the United Nations is always willing to be of assistance to Maldives.
