Government seeks to lift Malaysia ban on Maldivian driving license

The Government of Maldives has held discussions with the Government of Malaysia on the possibility of lifting the ban on using Maldivian driving licenses in Malaysia. The discussions were held between Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and her Malaysian counterpart Minister of Transport Loke Siew Fook.

During the meeting held on the side-lines of the General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) currently underway in the Canadian city of Montreal, the ministers discussed formulation of a mutual agreement to allow Maldivian driving licenses in Malaysia again. The agreement to be signed in the near future would allow the two licenses to be recognised in both countries.

The discussions also included on making aviation courses offered in Malaysia internationally accepted. Malaysian Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook promised to work to offer more scholarships to Maldivian students at the Malaysian Aviation Academy. The discussions also included signing an agreement between the two countries to collaborate in aviation and land transport.
