Government awards 129 projects in 10 months

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has revealed the government had awarded 129 projects in the first 10 months since it assumed power in November 2019.

Speaking to a local media, Minister Ameer said the government has achieved progress in attaining funds and project management. The minister said while the previous administration handed over 70 projects in the first year, the current administration had awarded 129 projects worth USD 233 million thus far. He also said the government currently is more efficient financially as it awards.

The government expects to complete 78 water and sewerage projects, 26 projects for education sector and 3 housing and harbour development projects by the end of the year.

Minister Ameer also denounced comments on the speed of the administration, explaining the slight delay in initiating projects is the result of careless planning by previous administrations. He also expected an increase in economic activities resulting in a better GDP by 2020.
