Consultancy work of Gulhifalhu port begins

Ministry of Economic Development has revealed the consultancy work of Gulhifalhu International Port development project has begun.

The consultancy work was contracted to the European joint venture between Maritime and Transport Business Solutions from Netherlands and NIRAS from Denmark for USD 1.050 million. The consultancy work has begun after the completion of mobilisation, according to the economic ministry.

The contractor is expected to undertake relevant research, carrying out feasibility studies, accumulate applicable documents and develop the master plan and the architectural drawings required for the project. The contractor has also been tasked with developing the tender documents for the project.

The ministry stated these documents shall be submitted by the contractor within four months. The ministry explained the contractors have been contracted as consultants for various mega projects across the globe; most of which were development of transhipment ports.

Developing an international transhipment port in Gulhifalhu is a priority of the government as part of its transition into a Blue Economy.
