In-school therapy services to be established for SEN students

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali has announced plans to establish therapy services at government schools for children with special education needs and disabilities.

Speaking to inaugurate the workshop on developing Policy on Inclusive Education, Strategic Plan and Capacity Needs Analysis, the education minister said the in-school therapy sessions are intended to solve the concerns of many parents regarding therapy service to special education needs students. The workshop that runs from September 12-17 will be attended by school principals, teachers, parents, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders.

Speaking to PSM News, Director General of the Department of Inclusive Education Ahmed Athif said the workshop will enable the ministry to propose required changes to government policies in order to provide a better education. He further expected teachers to improve their lesson planning and deliver with the support of experts from an Australian university.

The workshop on developing Policy on Inclusive Education, Strategic Plan and Capacity Needs Analysis will facilitate the education ministry to develop better policies and practices in education special needs students. The workshop will also be a platform for the ministry to review its strategic plan in addition to determining the financial cost required in planning and implementing its activities in the future.
