Seaplane terminal will be completed by May 2020: MACL

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated works of the seaplane terminal will be completed by May 2020.

Speaking to media regarding the ongoing works, Acting Managing Director of MACL Moosa Salih said early next year, efforts will be underway to handover the terminal to seaplane operators. The acting manager expressed hope the service operations at the terminal will commence by May next year.

While the existing terminal caters to 55 seaplanes at once, the new terminal has to capacity to operate 100 seaplanes at once, according to MACL. Moreover, MACL stated the jetties of seaplane terminal can operate for 50 years without interruptions.

The seaplane terminal in Velana International Airport (VIA) is developed with state-of-the-art facilities as part of the airport expansion project. The terminal consisting of 28,000 square metre floor space is constructed to four storeys.
