WAMCO facing a loss of USD 2 million for not receiving payments

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has revealed it is facing a loss of 2 million US dollars for not receiving payments for its services.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director of WAMCO Adam Mohamed explained 14,000 households have not registered for its services. He said only 10,000 households have been regularly paying bills from the 19,000 households registered for its services. He said WAMCO stopped giving services to the households that have failed to pay the bills.

Adam Mohamed said WAMCO has seen significant improvements in the past one year including enhancing the mechanism to collect waste from households and waste management in Thilafushi. He added complaints have decreased from 500 to 75 as a result of the improvements brought to the state-owned company.

To make payments easier for customers, WAMCO has established a mechanism to make online payments as well.
