IGMH prepares to handle possible coronavirus outbreak

The main government hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has stated it is prepared to handle possible outbreak of novel coronavirus in Maldives.

Speaking at a news conference in IGMH, Pulmonologist Mohamed Ismail said the hospital has a task force established in case the hospital needs to handle coronavirus patients.

Government authorities have also shared information on the preparations in an event the deadly virus is found in Maldives. The authorities have allocated a quarantine facility in Hulhumale', while arrangements have also been made to quarantine victims in Funadhoo. Sufficient face masks are currently stocked in State Trading Organisation (STO) pharmacies, with an additional 400,000 face masks to be brought to the country in the coming days.

Furthermore, thermal cameras have been installed in airports and seaports in Maldives.
