HPA vigilant over food imported from China

Health Protection Authority (HPA) has revealed the food imported from China undergoes a more vigilant inspection.

Speaking to the press, Senior Scientific Officer Sajidha Mohamed said HPA is inspecting Chinese imported food under a stricter guideline, following the novel coronavirus that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province.

Sajidha said the items imported from China are mostly seafood and they have a very short shelf life and hence are stored for a short period of time. She further said unlike the seafood imported from China, other food items pose a lesser risk of carrying coronavirus as most other food items are generally imported from Europe.

The administration is taking various measures to prevent individuals affected with coronavirus from entering Maldives. Health authorities urge the public to pay special attention to personal hygiene in order to stay safe from the virus.
