Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has revealed 12 individuals have been tested positive for measles thus far.
Speaking to brief the media on efforts of the ministry to mitigate the outbreak in Maldives, Minister Ameen said the spread has not yet been contained. He said from the 173 individuals tested till date, 12 have tested positive.
Minister Ameen further said the ministry has vaccinated 7,960 people across the country as part of its special vaccination campaign. He said the ministry is also planning to start another campaign on February 23, targeted towards the population under the age of 40 who have not completed 2 doses of measles shots. The expatriates working in Maldives will also be vaccinated under the programme which is expected to continue for three months.
The ministry has urged the public to take the required shots to ensure the disease is controlled in Maldives.
