Ministry of Health has handed over projects related to the health sector to be conducted by local councils, as part of efforts to decentralise projects.
Speaking at the programme held to hand over the projects, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen said all the projects handed over are included in the Public Sector Investment Projects (PSIP) of the administration. The minister stated the awarding of projects to the councils is a testament to the efforts of the administration to decentralise governance and empower councils. He expressed citizens will benefit from the decentralisation system in the coming days.
Shedding light on the developments of the global heath sector, the health minister said the health sector of the Maldives must be developed to overcome the challenges. The minister noted one main such development would be minimising travelling to the capital city for adequate health services. He highlighted the administration will keep on continuing to upgrade the health facilities in the islands to the latest facilities with state-of-the-art equipment.
The projects handed over to 20 local councils include enhancing space of health facilties and building outer walls of the facilities.
