Fenaka upgrades Addu Regional Powerhouse

Fenaka Corporation has completed the upgrade work of Addu Regional Powerhouse after installing two generators and connecting them to the power grid.

Addu Regional Powerhouse supplies electricity to Gan, Feydhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu City. The upgrade work of the powerhouse was completed on Saturday.

As part of the upgrade, Fenaka installed 2 generators with a capacity of 2 megawatts adding the capacity of the power house to 6 megawatts. The upgrade also included installation of panel boards and placing underground electric cables.

The powerhouse operated by Fenaka was built in 2000 with the assistance of the Japanese government. The network used in Addu City is currently over 20 years old.

Last year, the government contracted the Chinese power giant Dongfeng to install a power grid with the capacity of 20 megawatts. The project requires building a new powerhouse and increasing power capacity of Addu City to 36 megawatts.
