Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed over 500,000 masks have been stored to be supplied to resorts in an emergency situation.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the tourism minister said arrangements have been made to supply masks to any resort where COVID-19 is found from. In this regard, he stated over 500,000 masks have been stored to be supplied to resorts when the necessity arises.
Maldives reported its first cases of COVID-19 when two employees working in Kuredu Island Resort were tested positive for the virus. The two individuals have been transferred to the isolation facility in Farukolhufushi, while the resort has been placed under lockdown.
The tourism ministry revealed there are 271 Maldivian staff and 457 expatriate staff working in Kuredu, while 699 tourists are in the resort.
Health authorities believe COVID-19 spread through a tourist who visited Maldives. The tourism ministry has requested resorts to take necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus.
