Temporary restrictive measures lifted from 3 resorts

The government of Maldives has lifted temporary restrictive measures imposed on three resorts of Maldives.

In efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the government is imposing restrictions on islands or resorts with positive cases of COVID-19. The government has now lifted restrictions on Kuredu Island Resort, Sandies Bathala Resort and Kuramathi Maldives Resort.

According to Health Protection Agency (HPA) the managements of the abovementioned resort islands should maintain the cordoned areas where individuals identified as high-risk must remain isolated for the duration mandated by the authorities. Further, the individuals identified as low-risk are to be segregated from the high-risk individuals.

In addition, HPA advised the managements to monitor and ensure individual adherence to infection prevention and control procedures. HPA said all individuals are subject to exit screening prior to any movement out of the island. Moreover, HPA stated public health professionals should be present at the resort islands to implement infection prevention and control measures.

Meanwhile, Kuredu Island Resort has given permission for tourists to leave the island. Kuredu resort reported the first cases of COVID-19 in Maldives. The management of the resort said no new tourists will be allowed to the island, adding however, assistance will be provided for tourists to changing bookings to other resorts operated by the same company.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Maldives has risen to 8. The individuals tested positive for the virus are foreigners, which include tourists and staff of resorts. The latest positive case announced by HPA was found from Kuramathi Maldives. Four individuals were found positive from Kuredu and 2 people were from both Kuramathi and Sandies Bathala Resort, according to latest statistics.

Meanwhile, 15 individuals are kept in the isolation facility in Farukolhufushi and 13 individuals are kept in the quarantine facility in Vilivaru.
