National Flag carrier, Maldivian, has suspended flights from Hanimaadhoo to Cochin, India amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Maldivian, which operates 3 flights a week between Hanimaadhoo and Cochin, did not announce the reason for the suspension. However, the decision comes at a time the government, corporations and private companies are taking measures to reduce expenditure and take protective measures following global outbreak of COVID-19.
Residents of islands in the north of the country travel to India for medical purposes from Hanimadhoo. The Hanimaadhoo-Cochin route has provided the north with more convenience eliminating the need to travel to Velana International Airport in order to travel abroad.
Maldivian began operations to Cochin on October 28, 2019. While the Hanimaadhoo-Cochin route has been suspended, it will operate flights from Hanimaadhoo to Trivandrum twice a week.
