MACL prepares to use west apron at VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has concluded work on the second phase of the west apron of Velana International Airport (VIA).

25,500 square metres were developed under the second phase of the west apron. The space can accommodate 4 wide-bodied aircraft at once.

MACL commenced the enhancement of parking space at VIA to accommodate the increase in the number of airlines operating to Maldives. MACL revealed parking will be allowed in the west apron now.

While the new apron was developed in two phases, the first phase was completed on July 17, 2019. The east apron developed in VIA has an area of 77,000 square metres and can cater to 5 wide-bodied aircraft and 1 narrow-bodied aircraft at once.

The newly developed aprons are designed with signs to parking locations, staff spots and separate places to keep the equipment. With the new apron, over 200,000 square metres are now available for parking.

Although aircraft were previously required to refuel with fuel bowsers near the aircraft, the new fuel hydrant network allows aircraft to be refueled with fuel pipes.
