Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has held discussions with relevant authorities to increase capacity, human resource and equipment of health facilities to prepare for a worst-case scenario which may arise due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The government has launched a project named COVID Village as part of its efforts to combat and halt the spread of the pandemic in Maldives. The COVID Village will see the development of a 300-bed medical facility in Hulhumale' to treat critical COVID-19 patients.
During the meeting held with the relevant authorities, discussions were held to compile a policy to operate the facility. In addition, discussions also focused on training medical personnel required for the facility.
NEOC said the development of the COVID Village will be completed by April 15. The facility to be developed near Tree Top Hospital will consist of intensive care units and ventilators.
The project to develop COVID Village is headed by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and assisted by Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), State Electric Company (STELCO), Fenaka Corporation Limited, State Trading Organisation (STO), Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) and Amin Construction.
