USD 2.6 million spent to build medical facility in Hulhumale'

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the new medical facility currently being developed in Hulhumale' will cost USD 2.6 million.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the facility under development will house an isolation block, an accommodation block and a service building. He noted the facility will include 300 beds.

Mabrook said health professionals, doctors and nurses will use the accommodation block during their duration of work in the facility, adding the service building has been designed to include a kitchen, a waste management unit and a laundry. He said the facility being developed by renovating the building in front of Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale' will specialise in critical care.

The administration is working to complete the building by April 15. The facility is aimed at better bracing the impact in case of an outbreak in the Maldives. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is overseeing the development of the facility.

NEOC said staff from Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Fenaka Corporation Limited, State Trading Organisation (STO), Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), and Amin Construction as well as staff from Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure are collaborating with MNDF in completing the facility.
