Maldivian contracts COVID-19 in Malaysia: reports

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun probing into reports that a Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19 in Malaysia.

The foreign ministry stated the case has not been officially confirmed by relevant authorities in Malaysia, adding efforts are underway to confirm the reports on the case.

A large number of Maldivians live in Malaysia for studies as well as employment. The national flag carrier, Maldivian, has recently evacuated 197 Maldivians stranded in Malaysia following the declaration of lockdown in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
