Maldivian in Malaysia recovers from COVID-19

A Maldivian national has tested positive for COVID-19 in Malaysia has fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital, according to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).

The Malaysian Ministry of Health has disclosed details of foreigners who contracted COVID-19 while in Malaysia. In this regard, 416 cases from the total COVID-19 cases in Malaysia are foreigners. One Maldivian was included in the list disclosed by the ministry. This is the first time a Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19 in a foreign country.

A large number of Maldivians live in Malaysia for studies as well as employment. The national flag carrier, Maldivian, has recently evacuated 197 Maldivians stranded in Malaysia following the declaration of a lockdown in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
