The Maldives has extended the State of Public Health Emergency until April 30.
The statement issued by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen said the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakuru has advised maintaining the State of Public Health Emergency to ensure the safety of all citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Maldives initially declared State of Public Health Emergency for a period of 30 days on March 12. Following the extension, the public health emergency will be in place until April 30.
A circular issued by the health minister stated the country is still faced with the threat of COVID-19, adding the measure was a crucial step in safeguarding the Maldivian population. Director-General of Public Health has advised all authorities to continue taking stringent measures deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the public.
