19 more released after testing negative for COVID-19

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has permitted 19 more individuals to leave the quarantine facilities following the end of the 14-day quarantine period.

Speaking at a press conference held at NEOC, Dr. Moosa Murad of Indira Gandhi Hospital (IGMH) stated they were released after their samples tested negative for COVID-19. He stated an additional 80 samples have also been collected and they shall also be released if they test negative.

The administration has decided to quarantine all international arrivals and individuals with COVID-19 like symptoms. A total of 862 individuals have been quarantined in the facilities, while 11 individuals have been isolated in Velidhu Isolation facility. Meanwhile, one individual is currently being treated in Dharumavantha Hospital. The patient in Dharumavantha Hospital has fully recovered from COVID-19 and will be moved to a quarantine facility soon.

A total of 2,612 samples have been collected in the Maldives thus far, of which 2,507 have tested negative and 86 samples are awaiting results. Of the 20 confirmed cases in the Maldives, 5 locals are the only active cases in the country as all foreign patients in the Maldives have fully recovered. Two other foreigners who contracted COVID-19 while in the Maldives are undergoing treatment abroad.
