Maldives extends lockdown in Greater Male' Region for 14 days

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region for an additional 14-days.

On April 15, a lockdown was imposed in the Greater Male' Region following the detection of COVID-19 in Male' city. A wider lockdown is imposed to contain COVID-19 and to curb community spread after 8 Maldivians tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City.

HPA has urged to follow the advice and instructions given by the relevant authorities. HPA has also raised the alert level in the Greater Male' Region to Red.

During the lockdown, HPA has banned unauthorised individuals from going out in Male', Villimale' and Hulhumale', using public transportation including buses and ferries and travelling in and out of Male', Villimale', Hulhumale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu. However, HPA revealed the restrictive measures are eased on the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), healthcare professionals, and pass holders of the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).
