Addu City Council has stated shops and food outlets can only provide delivery services from now on, as part of the restrictive measures imposed to control the spread of COVID-19.
The city council announced shopping, dining and take-away services have been banned starting from 1700hrs on April 19. The council said only delivery services will be permitted during the period and requested businesses to register at the social support desk established in the respective ward in order to provide delivery services. The announcement by Addu City Council was made in accordance with the Decentralisation Act and the Public Health Protection Act.
Although no case of COVID-19 has been identified in Addu so far, the city council has been imposing several measures to prevent an outbreak in the city. As such, travelling between the wards of the city have been banned, with exceptions made for healthcare workers and individuals seeking medical treatment.
Following the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has been imposing several control measures across the country to curb the spread of the disease. In this regard, travelling between islands has been prohibited, while all prayer congregations have also been banned.
