President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called upon all state employees to provide support and assistance in combating the transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
In a directive, President Solih said state employees are a core element of the first line of defence against the pandemic and are also key in the provision of essential services to the community in accordance with the instructions of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and National Emergency Operations Centre(NEOC) along with other relevant authorities.
In the directive, the president said COVID-19 is rapidly spreading across the country, the workloads of COVID-19 task forces have drastically increased in a majority of cities, atolls and islands, and now require the support of island and atoll councils, government officials including civil servants, judicial service employees and employees from state-owned companies and enterprises to carry out the tasks and instructions from the authorities to fight and overcome the pandemic. The directive also reiterated the importance of cooperating fully with the authorities should they request aid from any state official or organisation, and to make arrangements to render such services with haste and efficiency to best protect every citizen of the nation.
Since the detection of the first positive COVID-19 case in Male' City, healthcare professionals, along with Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS) and volunteers from different government offices are working tirelessly to contain the coronavirus and provide essential services to the citizens.
