Total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 95

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 109.

HPA said 4 Maldivians and 19 Bangladeshis tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City on April 23. Therefore, the number of positive cases from Male' City has risen to 89, with 1 case identified from Uligan, Haa Alifu Atoll. after an individual travelled from the capital city.

In total, 39 Maldivians and 49 foreigners, including 6 Indians and 43 Bangladeshis tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City. Prior to the outbreak in the capital city, all 20 cases were reported from resorts, safaris, and individuals who have travelled to the Maldives from abroad and are undergoing the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) said 91 patients are undergoing treatment in the Maldives, in addition to 2 foreigners who contracted COVID-19 while in the country are undergoing treatment abroad. The patients undergoing treatment include an 80-year old Maldivian who has been transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital for close monitoring and observation.

In total, 16 patients, including 13 foreigners and 3 Maldivians, have fully recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
