National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed it has provided assistance to 124 people in Male' City since the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region following community spread of COVID-19.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the people who needed assistance included resort employees who came to Male' to travel to islands, some individuals who were pardoned from a jail term, and people evicted from rental apartments. Additionally, people who travelled to Male' for medicals and drug addicts are also included amongst the people who were assisted by NEOC. The spokesperson said these people have been provided with housing, food, and other personal cleanliness items.
Additionally, Mabrook stated the government is working with the Maldives Red Crescent (MRC) to identify expatriate accommodations with cooking facilities so the government can provide them with staples used in cooking. He further said people who had no means to clothing have been provided clothing by the government and 60 individuals have been provided food.
