National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has stated individuals released from quarantine facilities who wish to return to their home islands will be transported on domestic cargo flights of the national carrier, Maldivian.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the national airline decided to operate cargo flights to atolls in order to ease some of the difficulties faced in transporting goods to the atolls. Mabrook said goods will be carried on cargo flights, based on the information shared with the Local Government Authority (LGA) by local councils. He added the government has decided to transport individuals who have undergone the mandatory 14-day quarantine period and wish to return to their home islands, on the domestic cargo flights of Maldivian.
Following the ban on travelling between islands, local councils have been working to arrange means for residents of islands to return home. Meanwhile, several businesses have also highlighted the difficulties in transporting retail goods to islands, following the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region.
