29 arrested and 425 fined for breaching lockdown orders

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated 29 people have been arrested for breaching lockdown orders, while over 400 others have been fined.

MPS has been publishing details of the actions taken against individuals breaching lockdown orders in the Greater Male’ Region. In this regard, the police noted 29 people have been arrested since April 19 for breaching lockdown orders, while 425 people have been fined during this period. The largest number of fines were handed out on April 24, with 109 people fined on the day. Meanwhile, the largest number of arrests took place on April 22, with 15 arrests.

A special permit is required to go out in the Greater Male’ Region. People who are caught on the streets without a permit can be fined by an amount over USD 65. MPS requested any individual going out on an essential purpose to register at the designated portal and seek the permit before going out.
