National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the captain of a boat that carried 98 people has tested positive for COIVD-19.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at the NEOC, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) stated the captain of the boat that travelled from Male' to Narudhoo, Shaviyani Atoll after transiting in a number of other islands tested positive for COVID-19. He said the boat travelled on April 15 and 16 to Maafaru, Henbadhoo, Holhudhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, Narudhoo, Funadhoo and Feevah in Shaviyani Atoll in addition to Dhihdhoo and Utheemu in Haa Alifu Atoll. NEOC has announced the islands have been put under monitoring by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Noting the case could lead to a significant cluster of contacts in the country, Dr, Afzal stressed contact tracing is still ongoing. He stated 5 passengers who travelled on the boat showed COVID-19 like symptoms.
The doctor further called on all passengers who travelled on the boat to report to the NEOC or the health authorities should they show any symptoms of COVID-19.
