Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun testing samples for COVID-19 in its forensic laboratory.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Assistant Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen said MPS began testing samples for COVID-19 using the PCR machines in its forensic laboratory in order to speed up the testing process in the country. He revealed MPS is now testing 173 samples obtained from Kuredu Island Resort, with results expected to be available within one day.
All the tests for COVID-19 in the Maldives have so far been conducted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). A third PCR machine has been brought to IGMH to boost the testing process, with the latest machine able to process 300 tests per day. In addition, the government has been making arrangements to conduct COVID-19 tests in three atolls, using gene expert machines.
Over 5,700 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the Maldives so far.
